Cloud Forest Garden By The Bay

Cloud Forest Garden By The Bay – Check out the new Orchid Haven expansion in Cloud Forest, details on the Mid-Autumn Festival, Dale Chihuly: Glass in Bloom (September update) in the Flower Dome, and more in this Gardens by the Bay update!

Orchid Haven is a newly renovated part of Cloud Forest’s chilled conservatory. It was introduced on July 30, 2021, occupying a rather quiet area on the first floor of the conservatory behind the iconic “mountain”.

Usually most visitors turn right at this intersection and cross the metal bridge – because there was “nothing much” on the left. Not anymore.

As the name suggests, this new area is dedicated to orchid displays – permanent and rotating. Think of it as a field of flowers in the Flower Dome. But only for orchids.

The first orchid exhibit is Flight of the Moth Orchid – for Phalaenopsis orchids shaped like flying butterflies. This section displays over 800 orchids in a spectacular swirling cascade of blooms. The gardens call it a “breathtaking waterfall.”

It really is breathtaking – and many visitors couldn’t stop taking selfies here. Please note that masks must be worn at all times in the Gardens – there are ambassadors here to remind (or in some cases ‘catch’ – I saw them manage a difficult visitor who persistently broke the rules by trying to take ‘maskless selfies’).

Although the moth orchids together form a large exhibit, there are also smaller orchid exhibits in the area.

There is this large empty area – which could perhaps be used for larger exhibitions, orchid displays or other activities. There is no ramp access here, so pushchairs and wheelchair drivers are asked to make a U-turn to exit.

The lantern displays are returning to the gardens and I got a first look at these cute bunnies who have discovered the Succulent Garden and Baobab Trees section of the Flower Dome.

There are also some community lantern displays, such as the Origami Crane Trees, which features around 2,000 hand-folded origami cranes that form a rainbow.

Gardens by the Bay is holding a Mid-Autumn Festival from September 15 to October 3, with performances in both the Flower Dome and Outdoor Gardens. Speaking of outdoors, the Art-Zoo Wonder Gardens Children’s Festival is also open from now until October 3, 2021, filling the Supertree Grove with giant inflatable animals.

The Dale Chihuly: Glass in Bloom (or just Chihuly in Bloom) exhibit at the Flower Dome got an update on September 1st: Chrysanthemums.

These vibrant flowers add a touch of gold to the field and create a contrast to the glass sculptures, which are more white, pink and purple.

Gardens by the Bay is now Singapore’s seventh Shake Shack restaurant, taking over the retail space that once housed Bakerz and another Gardens souvenir shop long ago. This new addition, along with the recently opened Starbucks, makes the Gardens an even more attractive lifestyle destination.

The restaurant has a heavy tropical theme, with hanging greenery and flowers – well suited to the garden it now calls home.

Eagle-eyed Shack fans will notice two menu exclusives: Berries by the Bay and Tropic Like It’s Hot. Perfect after a fruitful stroll around the Bay South Gardens.

Flower Dome shows require admission to the Flower Dome and reservation of an entrance time. Outdoor Gardens exhibitions are free.

The centerpiece of Gardens by the Bay’s Cloud Forest dome is this six-story-tall vertical garden—and a waterfall cascading down. The Cloud Forest at Gardens by the Bay is one of Singapore’s most impressive attractions. This stunning greenhouse-like glass dome can be seen from miles away and is just as stunning on the inside as it is on the outside. The large, air-conditioned domes feature spiral walkways and one of the world’s tallest indoor waterfalls, cascading down from a height of over 30 meters.

Singapore is a hot country all year round, so a visit here is more than just a great way to cool off. Thanks to air conditioning, cool steam and a refreshing waterfall, the temperatures inside Cloud Forest Singapore are kept low to replicate the humid and humid conditions of the misty tropical mountains between 900 and 2,700 meters above sea level.

When you enter closed doors, you’re more likely to reach for a coat instead of a fan. The blast of air created by the huge waterfall is the first thing that hits you, and you usually gasp in awe as soon as you step inside. Take the elevator up to begin your descent on ramps that swing downwards and loop in and out of the main column.

The flowers and tropical vegetation change as you descend, mimicking how it would change at different altitudes. The moss-covered ‘lost world’ at the top has a lotus pond, and along the way there is a stalactite and stalagmite display, an educational theater and numerous lilies, orchids, pitcher plants, sunflowers and tassel ferns.

Even if you’re not an avid flower lover, a visit to the Cloud Forest at Gardens by the Bay is simply a must – just to admire the stunning architecture, which consists of huge panes of glass set on massive steel mesh. No concrete pillars are visible. Cloud Forest’s smaller brother, the Flower Dome, is the world’s largest column-free greenhouse.

The Flower Dome also forms the giant man-made structure at Gardens by the Bay. Admission to both Cloud Forest and Flower Dome is S$28 for adults and S$15 for children aged 3-12.
