Stepping Into The Future At Gardens By The Bay
The Bay South Garden, the largest of all, is home to the impressive, iconic Supertrees. These sky-high vertical gardens have conveniently put Singapore on the map for innovation and invention. Different supertrees, originally inspired by an orchid, are built to resemble Singapore’s national flower: Vanda ‘Miss Joaquim’. Each tree is between 9 and 16 stories tall, with the tallest at the jaw dropping 50 meters. Each of these impressive vertical gardens is filled with more than 163,000 plants of more than 200 species and varieties. Travel along the suspended walkway between two supertrees for a bird’s-eye view of these unique gardens. Gardens by the Bay covers 250 acres of reclaimed land on the waterfront. The best place to get an idea of the full size of the park is from the top of the Marina Bay Sands, directly opposite the park. It’s easy to get here, either via walkways from the hotel, which give you elevated views, or via a slightly longer riverside promenade to enter the park near the 2 Gopurams.
It won’t cost you a penny to walk around the park, but there is a fee if you want to step into the climate-controlled conservatories or walk among the Super Trees. There is no doubt that the steel-framed ‘tree’ plantation dominates the Gardens by the Bay, with 12 large metal structures in the central grove and half a dozen other structures in other parts of the garden.

Over 200 different species of plants and flowers cover the exterior of these long, steep gardens – twice a night, at 7.45pm and 8.45pm, they shine and make up the centerpiece of the garden’s light and music show. You will feel like you are in a modern fairy tale.
For those who love the view, trek 25 meters to a remarkable walkway that connects 3 trees. The 50-meter tree in the center offers 360-degree panoramas of the gardens and Marina Bay.
If you need to cool off, head into the Cloud Forest, a small shell-shaped structure with a 35-meter-high mountain covered in plants that typically thrive in tropical highlands. Don’t worry if the climb seems too much, there’s a lift that takes you up into the mist and offers a stunning view over walls of plants and orchids.
The flower dome is cooler than outside, recreating the dry climate of places like California and the Mediterranean. In this massive conservatory, you’ll find yourself on a journey around the world with baobabs from Africa, olive trees from Spain, kangaroo paws from Australia.
Gardens By The Bay Singapore: Cloud Forest To Supertree Grove
A visit to both greenhouses costs S$28 for adults and S$15 for children. Inside the Flower Dome, you’ll also find Pollen, a Mediterranean restaurant that creates dishes using home-grown herbs and vegetables.
If you come by Bayfront MRT, you have to walk past Dragonfly and Kingfisher Lakes first. If you have enough time, take a walk along the boardwalk to discover the many birds and insects that have made this area their home.
In a nod to the various nationalities that have settled in Singapore over the years, there is a series of four interconnected gardens with plants and trees from India, China, Malaysia and the Colonial Garden.
